Friday 18th September 2026 

This week, year 5 have been busy writing their kennings. The children have thought about different animals and used hyphens to join nouns to verbs or nouns to nouns. The children have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 exploring number lines so that they can visually see which number is closer. 

In Science, we looked at how Aristotle knew that the world was (roughly) spherical by placing Lego figures on the globes and observing what happened as the globe turned. We compared this to what would happen if the world had been flat – looking at the difference between 'small' and 'far away'. 

The children have been enjoying their cricket lessons a lot, exploring how to bat and field effectively in their teams. 

Friday 11th September 2026 

This week, Year 5 have been creating kenning using hyphens and choosing vocabulary carefully. In Maths, we have been exploring place value up to 1 million. 

In Science, we explored different facts about the planets and created mnemonics to help us remember the order from the Sun. 

In History, we looked at wattle and daub and how the Anglo-Saxons made walls. We used clay, sticks and art straws to create the structures.
