What Does This Mean?

The Green BSSP (Buckinghamshire School Sports Partnership) Swimming Award recognises schools that are providing outstanding swimming opportunities for their pupils. This award shows that we're not just teaching children to swim – we're helping them develop confidence, competence and a lifelong love of being in the water.

Why Swimming Matters

Swimming is a vital life skill, and at Stoke Mandeville Combined School, we take it seriously! Through our swimming programme, our pupils learn to:

• Swim confidently and competently over distances of at least 25 metres
• Master different strokes including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
• Perform safe self-rescue techniques in different water-based situations

These aren't just skills for the pool – they're essential for keeping our children safe around water throughout their lives.
